Psychotherapy / Emotional Freedom

“My goal is to support you to achieve health, well being, and success through using hypnotherapy within the context of general psychotherapy. At CIBM, our approach to psychotherapy involves five main aspects: it is solution focused, balances block removal with resource development, is body-oriented, addresses trauma stored in the body, and involves working with issues of meaning and the soul."

-Greg Freedman, MD, CCHt

Counseling Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is an interactive process of guided relaxation and/or imagery directed toward a specific therapeutic goal. Hypnosis consists of

  1. the methods of using imagery and of inducing and supporting relaxation, and
  2. the relaxation itself (also called a trance state). Please see FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HYPNOSIS. When hypnotherapy is used in the context of counseling and psychotherapy, it is referred to as counseling hypnotherapy.

Solution-Oriented

A solution-oriented approach is focuses on change more than on understanding. Understanding and insight come naturally in the process of change and empowerment. However, focusing primarily on insight generally has little or no effect on achievement of life goals or improvements of well being. Instead, we clarify your goals and work toward them, while staying flexible enough to adjust direction as your goals evolve. As a result, therapy is quicker and produces more specific results than insight-oriented approaches.

Balance of Block Removal and Resource Development

Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, Boulder, Denver, Colorado, Emotional Healing, Resource DevelopmentThere are two aspects to attaining well being and emotional freedom.
One aspect is Block Removal, which involves identifying and releasing limiting beliefs, releasing trauma held in the nervous system, removal of habits that create limitation and negative results, and clearing fears and phobias. Resistance to emotional freedom and to achieving goals is based on subconscious attempts to meet deep inner needs and drives. Block removal works with the subconscious to find better and higher ways to meet inner needs. The result is like releasing the emergency brake; it frees up your energy and focus to set goals and create positive changes.
The other aspect is Resource Development, which involves connecting with personal strengths, improving/developing these strengths, creating safety, developing patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that get you to the experiences you want, developing healthy, nurturing and Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, Boulder, Denver, ColoradoEmotional Health, Emotional Healing, Resource Developmentproductive habits of thought and action, identifying and developing skills needed for greater well being and achievement of goals, and accessing, developing, fine tuning and working with vision and motivation. Resource development harnesses and utilizes the inherent power and capabilities all people posses in order to create movement toward goals of inner happiness and outer achievement. Resource development can be held back when there are inner blocks, and can only progress as blocks are removed.

Body-Oriented

Your body is the canvass your emotions, thoughts and beliefs are painted on. Subconscious dynamics express in the body via movement, tension and physical sensations. Therefore the body can be used to contact subconscious beliefs, emotions and habits in order to re-pattern and re-create a subconscious painting more in alignment with well being and health.

Soul Work and Meaning

achieving spiritualityWorking with the soul and meaning is about acknowledging that people have needs for spirituality, connection and meaning in life. A soul perspective also involves recognizing that healing takes many forms and that each experience can be used as a source of learning and transformation. Soul work includes accessing spiritual resources (also called super-conscious, inner wisdom, higher self, divine wisdom, or God), self love and acceptance, and learning practices to develop equanimity (being able to tolerate/be comfortable with discomfort).

Trauma

Trauma Counseling involves addressing traumas and stressful experiences that get stored in the nervous system. Traumatic conditioning creates automatic physiological and emotional responses that inhibit progress in physical and emotional healing, and in achievement of goals in all areas of life. Therefore, it is often useful to release trauma to facilitate healing and psychotherapy. There are several ways of releasing trauma. Hypnotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic ways used by CIBM associates include Cellular Release Therapy TM, NLP Trauma Reversal, Mindfulness Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy Methods and Techniques

My way of doing psychotherapy focuses on hypnotherapy, supported by several other approaches, including elements of gestalt, cognitive-behavioral therapy, client-centered, psychodynamic, mindfulness, energetic, sensorimotor psychotherapy, and other somatic/body-oriented approaches.
